Services

Allagash Gateway Campground & Cabins is located on the beautiful Ripogenus Lake, right next door to Chesuncook Lake, the third largest lake in Maine spanning 23,070 acres. We offer a range of accommodations including cabins, premium campsites, primitive campsites, and RV sites. Our facilities include showers, a boat launch, docking in the protected marina, canoe and kayak rentals, and transportation services to the Upper West Branch of the Penobscot River Corridor. Enjoy fishing for land-locked salmon, brook trout, lake trout, perch, smelt, and cusk, or observe the diverse wildlife native to this area of Maine. Additionally, we have a limited supply of essential items available at the Main Lodge, as well as a library of books, games, and cards for borrowing.

Generator hours are from 7:00 am to 9:00 am and 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, seven days a week. We also have a growing library of books available in our store, known as "Alice's Lending Library." Feel free to ask for books specific to Maine and our area, as they provide great information.

Campground Basics

Note: We reserve the right to ask anyone to leave immediately if rules are not followed.

Seasons

The season begins in the first week of May tentatively (as soon as roads allow) and closes in the third week of November. Included in the seasonal agreement is permission to hunt on our private property (call for details). All seasonal campers will have to pay campsite rates during non-seasonal dates and should call in advance from the end of November until March of the following year. Power and water are available from 7-9 am and 5-9 pm daily.

Cabins

We have four small cabins that can accommodate up to five people and one large cabin that can house ten or more people. Children under the age of five stay for free. The cabins are propane-powered and equipped with a heater, four-burner cooktop, refrigerator, and lights. Cookware, dishes, utensils, and linens are provided. Privies are located nearby, and showers are available from 5:00-7:30 pm for $4.00 per person at the main lodge. We now offer winter showers. Water is delivered daily from our well for dishes and other uses. A nonrefundable deposit of $100 is required at the time of booking (effective within 24 hours of booking) for cabin reservations.

Fishing

Fishing in the local area is exceptional. Right off our main dock, you can find some of the best salmon and trout fishing the area has to offer in any season. During the winter months, we also offer ice fishing, snowshoeing, and accessible snowmobile trails. We are planning to expand these trails to connect with other area trails soon.

Boating and Kayaks

Our facilities include a boat launching area, docking for boats, and parking for cars and trailers. Our campsites are in harmony with nature, some being secluded while others are more open. Each campsite is equipped with a fire ring and trash container. Drinking water is supplied by an on-site well. We offer canoes and kayaks for hourly and daily rental. A security deposit is required for rentals in the form of cash or credit card, and signing a waiver is mandatory.

Hiking

Hiking Mount Katahdin is also a favorite activity for many. It is approximately 18 miles to the base, and you should allow about 1 hour for driving when leaving here.

Electricity

We provide electricity at our campground.

Hunting

The North Maine Woods is noted for its big bucks! We are located in the heart of buck country. Our area offers hundreds of miles of maintained roads, making it a hunter's paradise for deer, bear, grouse, rabbit, moose, coyotes, and birdwatching. Allagash Gateway Campground & Cabins has it all. Keep an eye out for changes regarding bear baiting and guiding. Our area is also home to an incredible number of moose. If you are lucky enough to be selected in the annual moose lottery, please note that moose hunting season requires a permit.
